OT: vid driver hell

I screwed up my vid drivers somehow...Had a dual head 3d prophet card
running 2 monitors at 1280x1024/85 hz...tried to add a second card...Diamond
Stealth (also use ATI drivers). Somehow installing the second card corrupted
the driver for the first and now it will not operate higher that 60 hz when
it was running at 85 before. I deleted the new drivers/removed card,
reinstalled  old card drivers, etc., and still cannot get it back to working
as it did before. By chance has anyone ever run into something like this?
