Hello Bob,

i think the courts determined that the people own the data. the people
like yourself and myself actually make the data when place a trade.
the exchange has a reporting responsibility to make the data available
to the public.

the data vendors are not paid for the data they provide neither is the
exchange. they are paid for the transmission of the data. the band
width, the floppy disk, the zip files culmination and compilation of
requested data by the customer.

but we the people own the data, we are the data. i could be mistaken
but i have been thru two court cases now and not served a day in jail
and i used to provide free data in spite of what anyone threatened me.

i will find the magazine article and post it - in fact i think it is
in the archives of the o list already we are getting old.
