Just as a followup to this, since I never heard from anyone - I was able
to automatically monitor the spread & place the order from Excel. The
Excel spreadsheet demo provided by IB did most of the work - I had to
make small modifications. This was really cool - I think some strategies
(like spreaders) can be written more effectively using Excel/DDE than a
combination of EL/some order placement dll.
