Hi Joe,
I am working on the first update in almost 4 years and should be complete
for beta testing by the first part of next week. If any "techies" would like
to beta test this new version please contact me.
The original version of Unfrag was written in DOS and I believe it has
worked well for all who have used it and I have received no reports of
problems since the release of the current version. However, a friend of
mine recently experienced a tick file corruption problem which I think he
believes was due to using Unfrag but I believe was caused by a PC "cough"
during the time Unfrag was being run. His problems have caused me to look
at Unfrag and see what could be done better. What I see is a need for a
tick file integrity check and I am implementing this into a new Windows
application. The original program contained no integrity checking so a
corrupt tick file which had too few or too many bytes in a data block could
actually be made more corrupt using the original Unfrag. Apparently, this
condition does not happen often in TS4 but could possibly happen. The new
program performs a tick file integrity check both prior to and after
running the Unfrag routine and then allows user the ability to use the
unfragmented file or not.
