In any case, Bessel filters are known for not overshooting.  The
problem is, Bessel filters also have the gentlest roll-off in
the frequency spectrum, losing more low-frequency information
than you might want to lose, while not attenuating all the high
frequency noise that you want to eliminate.  They're better than an
exponential moving average, though.

The point of Clyde's message is that there exists a filter that
offers the optimum combination of spectral performance and damping.

The problem is, I can find zero references anywhere to these
"Martin-Graham" filters, although I find a lot of references
to a guy named Martin Graham, who is likely the "Graham" of
Martin-Graham.
