I prefer Firefox these days, on Windows or Unix. You will dramatically
reduce your risk of spyware/virus/exploits attacking you via web
browsing. Plus once you've used "tabbed" browsing you might wonder how
you lived with out it.
Mozilla is the open source version of what used to be Netscape. Its good
stuff.
And free. And can easily be uninstalled without mucking up your system.
Nothing to lose.
