Hi Gurus,
Currently I'm doing everything on one PC. (PC-A)
Because of upgrading I have spare PC just collecting dust. (PC-B)
I'm considering a little 100mbit or 1gigabit network.
I would like some advice on what to run on what PC.
Here is what I have in mind and would like some feed back on it.
But first my configuration incase thats of importance for your sugggestions.
PC-A: 2.6Ghz, 1GB dual channel ram, high end videocard, fast Hds
PC-B: 900Mhz, 768MB PC133, midrange videocard, No HDs yet but will be good
speed. No screen. Probebly be far away from my desk. (I hate noise)
Network consists of PC-A, PC-B and a cablemodem.
I'm just trading as a hobby. So sometimes I don't trade for a month and just do
other things with my PC. That includes a lot of installing/rebooting.
But I want to keep data collection etc running in the background.
So the setup I have is mind is:
PC-A:
- Anti virus
- Trading programs without their datafiles and datacollection programs.
TradeStation, MetaStock and several shareware charting tools.
- None trading related programs.
PC-B:
- Anti virus
- Connection to cablemodem
- Firewall
- Printerserver
- Global Server
- MetaStock datafiles plus the RT components MetaStock uses (not 3rd party)
- All kind of data convertors/downloaders/importers
Basicly I intend to never shut off PC-B and let it collect data when I'm not
trading.
So the questions:
- Can GS be on a network?
- GS speed issues when loading a chart and optimizing?
- I can collect my intraday data at the end of the day with some tool on PC-B
- During trading I also neet the data RT. I use TWS for that. Can I run TWS on
PC-A (so I can see the market action) and still get the data to PC-B (so the
charting tools get their data to chart)?
Any feedback is welcome.
Regards,
Tony
