Micheal...heres my 2c
What i do when this sort of Sh#T happens is
Get a external storage device working ie seperate harddrive ide/usb/firwire
etc
copy all your vital stuff onto it (software installs ,documents, data, copy
of all programs.)
wait till the weekend.
saturday morning/friday night , format the problem disk.
Reload the operating system
Reload apps
backup everything to cdrom/another harddrive/ghost disk
this gives 48 hours of time to fix problems incase SH#T happens again
i do this every six months out of nessecity from viruses/new apps/slow
registry loading etc ... clean installs are much faster and more reliable i
do it in 5 hours complete. problem solved most times :O)
Cheers
Cameron

Subject: GS Hosed?
My thanks to all who offered suggestions on how to resolve my problems re
getting my OS to recognize my CD burner/player. Suffice to say I'm still
struggling with it.
I've made arrangements for a knowledgeable friend who's not intimidated by
Registry issues to use one of the popular Registry scanners to reveal
problems and then hopefully resolve them.
Meanwhile, my jinx continues <g>. After trying out a new piece of software
(ACT! 6.0) last night I experienced several lock-ups when accessing various
parts of that app. Each time I did a warm boot, typically followed by a
Ckdisk (I have Win2000).
This morning I noticed that the charting module of my TS2000i came up
blank. No data was making it into it from the Global Server (I use
eSignal). A reboot was followed by an attempt to launch the GS. It
launched, but only after stern warnings about duplicate passwords, etc. I
disregarded it because I have a clean copy. I rebooted again, only this
time I got a multitude of messages about c:-tree errors, etc.
The charting module came up blank, regardless of how I adjusted the
lookback for data to load. Trying to update missing data with eSignal's
plug-in worked, but was followed by the same messages and the termination
of the GS.
I'm wondering if an old copy of my data files on a backup disk would remedy
the problem. If someone would walk me through the process, I'd be grateful.
If I need to reinstall everything, what should I backup so I don't need to
re-create all my workspaces?
Sorry to bother everyone with these issues. One gets complacent after
awhile when things work so well for so long. Guess it's time to 'pay some
dues'. :-(
Thanx everyone,
Michael
