Having also been involved in futures since the late 70s I agree with Jack.
The more distant months traded above $50. As a matter of fact, one of my
clients sold short gold (one lonely contract) at $1000, even though nearby
traded at $800+. I forget exact prices and contract months. Those were the
good old days!
