Doug,
You have data problems. You can reindex after the close but ctree
errors may look fixed after the reindex but all will not be well and
sooner or later you will need to fix up your data.
Here is what I have always done to really fix it though I may have
waited months before I did it. Oh and what you might find is
exporting or importing data seems to be a problem and doesn't always
work or doesn't work at all. Temp files get left and really mess it
up.
1. copy PDS folder to the safest place you can send it and name the
folder something besides PDS. Like BPDS. REBOOT.
2. First take the GS off line then try exporting your largest symbol.
ES or NQ or DELL or something.
3. after exporting say ES then tell GS to delete data. Just data not
the symbol.
4. import the data back. Make sure it is back. Check tick, min. and
daily charts to see.
5. If you get errors bringing it back then close GS and Charting and
delete the files in your PDS folder. Then COPY the old PDS data back
from step 1.
*REMEMBER ALWAYS TURN THE GLOBAL SERVER OFF LINE TO IMPORT OR EXPORT.
Now you are back where you were but still have bad data files. If you
can't export and import files you are now in the save my data mode.
Yes you have data but it is going to be a problem from now on.
You see people giving me a hard time because I say reinstall TS2ki
all the time. Well there is a reason for it and beyond that it is so
easy. Here is the safe and easy way to do it. Don't bother doing it
if you don't have the disk space. Just go buy a new hard drive to add
to what you have. Forget burning CDs. Too slow.
FIRST BE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR 40 DIGET PASSWORD HANDY.
1. Copy the whole Omega Research folder to the other drive and be sure
it is really there.
2. Use Start-Search then search for *.tmp on your C: or whatever is
the main drive in your machine. Mine is C: for boot and E: for all
the programs. Delete all the .tmp files.
3. Go to control panel and use uninstall Tradestation.
4. Go delete the original Omega Research folder.
5. Open the registry. If you are not using Windows 2000 or XP this
could be a problem for you. In the registry go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER
and expand it then expand Software then locate the Omega Research
folder. Right click it and choose delete. Close Registry and Reboot.
6. Now install TS2ki. Don't let it overwrite your custom toolbars.
7. Now copy the Server folder back on top of the new Server. This as
you know means copy the server folder to the Omega Research folder so
it will overwrite the new one. Now copy the MyWork folder back. Copy
Templates if you had any. Ok now crank it up and see what happens.
If you are happy then great otherwise see number 8.
8. Copy your Server folder to a safe place.
9. GS off line then try to export data. I do this on about 400 to
500 symbols that then make .XPO files of about 250MB to 400MB.
Then delete the data for what you still have highlighted and just
exported. Import the data back and see if it works ok.
10. If that worked then export all your data piece at a time.
Deleting the data as you go. Close GS.
11. When you are finished then delete the PDS folder. Remember you
copied the Server folder out so the PDS is still safe.
12. Reboot. Open the GS. Set it to work off line. Now import all
those XPO files one at a time. The GS made a new PDS folder but it is
basically empty. Your symbols are in the Server folder so we didn't
delete them.
Now you can check the size of your new PDS folder verses the old one.
It should be smaller and really in tip top shape.
So I don't take any liability if I forgot something and you aren't
supposed to do anything stupid along the way. As lone as you have the
backup of the whole Omega Research folder somewhere you are safe. You
can always copy it back and be back to where you were again.
I did this export import thing on 15 gig of data. You will not get
that much done on a weekend. Too much time involved. I did it over a
two week period. I exported each night and after a week exported what
had collected for the symbols already done and then deleted data for
all those and then moved on to the second half. At the end of all of
them I exported all remaining data that had collected during the two
weeks. Then I brought only what I wanted back. All the symbols were
collecting but most of them I didn't bring the old data back. It is
there if I need it.
There are four things TS2ki likes.
1. Reboot.
2. Build new workspace to replace corrupt ones.
3. Reinstall TS2ki clean or right on top.
4. Fix up the data.
