Since I posted Sam's original TS7 rant, I thought you should see the
follow-up as well. For those who wanted to know where they're posted, it's
the "AskMrEasyLanguage" (guess who *that* might be!)group at yahoo... just

  Subject: [MrEasyLanguage] TS 7 #2

OK, latest and greatest... All in all it is good. I am just a nit picker
and love to gripe, so here I go again!

OK, my problem with installing TS7 was "Source Protected" functions
(EasyLanguage object code sent out with no source), specifically one or more
from Jurik Research. Once I deleted these, it opened correctly.
Technicians at Omega are, I believe, working with Mark to determine which
function, and why, causes the problem.

I am still going through the process of getting it [TS7] back up and
happy. There are things I like and things I do not like.

You will notice (if you look) that some functions that were written as
User Functions in earlier versions are not unverified because they have been
replaced by Built-In Functions. I am deleting these at this time, clearing
up space. However, I am noticing that some of the Read-Only Built-in
Functions do not have descriptive notes, whereas the old User-Functions
did...

Be warned, that you still get a Dialog asking you to confirm that you
want to "Delete" (close) an EasyLanguage Document window. There IS an
option to NOT show this warning in the future. If you DO select this
option, then you WILL NOT be prompted when you actually are deleting
something important like a Chart or RadarScreen! I am still in the process
of determining how to turn it back on. I am hoping it is not in the
registry.

The "Close Window" dialog works for all windows. To turn it back on, go
to File|Preferences...|TradeStation Desktop. In the General Tab, you will
see a section called Confirmations. Select that checkbox, and you will once
again see the confirmation windows.

Notice that closing an editor window is not a delete operation, and is
perfectly normal use of the tool. Deleting a chart is a different matter!
Once again, leaving the old PowerEditor as a separate application, as it
should be, would have solved this. Ask yourself this... Does Micro$oft
Word ask you before you delete a window, UNLESS it has not been saved?

They re-mapped a number of old Hot-Keys (key strokes), without asking
our permission. I mentioned <Ctrl>+<F6> and <Ctrl>+<Shift>+<F6>. I also
noticed that <F8> is no longer "Repeat Search" (was <F4> in TS 2000i and
earlier). Undo <Alt>+<BackSpace>. Cut <Shift>+<Del>. I think I am going
to do a "Save As" of the original hot keys, delete most of their ones and
then map the old values.

Change things for the sake of change, instead of because it makes it
better... Wasn't it WordPerfect that discovered (back in the 80s) that
users did not want senseless changes, just improvements, and were willing to
pay for an improved product.

There are a lot of new Icons so you can have lots of fun customizing
the tool bars. There is now one for "Verify All" but I bet you dollar$ to
donuts that you STILL must have an EZL window open and active!

All in all - it is still Omega. They still change things
unnecessarily, design it so it is less than easy to use, at least for a
developer. Traders, what do you say?

I have a call scheduled tomorrow from the head of QA (Quality
Assurance) to discuss each of the points I expressed to Omega. I will share
with you what I learn.

I apologize for the rant, but this is my soap box, after all.

  Samuel
