>anyway what's the offer for a ts2ki clone?
Y'know, I have actually been tempted to tackle the project. I
like EL but from the first week I started using TS2Ki last year,
I noticed several deficiencies crying to be fixed, notably: the
optimizer limitations (can't optimize my own calculated values), the
inability to trade multiple issues in a portfolio, and no capability
of source-level debugging or execution tracing of my own EL code.
I considered starting development of a TS clone using the Java
language so that it could run on any OS, not just Windows. With the
Java virtual machine software available for different platforms,
Java runs almost as fast as compiled native code. It would be open
source of course. And being Java, the software would be written in
a more structured way than TradeStation is written, I'll bet. I
suspect the reason TradeStation updates have been so slow in coming
is that their source code is too hard to maintain.
Ideally it should accept user code written in either EasyLanguage
or Java. Folks concerned about security could write their stuff
in Java and compile it themselves, releasing only the object files
which anybody could link in, on any platform. Java can also call
routines written in native code too if needed.
>if one million could be
>raised amongst us we might could have an open source ts platform.
If I had a million to do this, I'd quit my job, hire a team, and get
cracking on the project.
Before Volker jumps into this thread, I'll note that WealthLab
does correct some of TradeStation's deficiencies, but I find WL's
programming language a bit more cumbersome and it's also tied to one
OS. However, as I look at WL more, it's making the idea of a TS
clone less worthwhile to pursue.
