I wasn't a maths major either, but it seems that as long
as all the variables are equal (ie, a,b,c,d,x=0, or a,b,c,d,x=1,
or even a,b,c,d,x=pi.. etc) then it will solve neatly.
Any other solutions are left as an exercise for the reader..
