Volker: Response to public note about Replacement for 2000i"

1. My interests back then were not (and still are not) back testing. I was
looking for software to replace RealTick, and needed an objective way to
evaluate such packages.

My primary interests were and are: charting, studies, order execution, data
feed reliability and data feed speed; and low per trade commission costs.
My secondary interests were and are, end of day and real time scanning for
trade candidates. I have my own software tool for risk & $ management.

So, at that time, your software did not meet what I was searching for.

2. There are over 1,800 functions that exist in the primary trading
software packages....those could be evaluated and scored to fit onto one
page for one package, much less for a lot of packages.

Different packages have different strengths. And they click with different
traders whose personalities, trading styles and circumstances can be
different.

One person's opinion of what is best, or even about which package is best in
a class of functions, does not necessarily have any value for another
trader.

E.g., if I think that NeoTicker or RealTick or Investor/RT or whatever are
really good for charting, but another trader is using cycle techniques, that
other trader will probably prefer Ensign or Advanced Get, and find these
former tools to be poor, for his or her intended use.

So what you suggest about a comparison, depends upon who is doing the
comparing.

Have done RFP's to software vendors over the years. When each software
vendor filled out the checklists, they all seemed to have everything. No one
wanted to admit to not having a feature or function in an RFP. In the end,
we seemed to always find what was missing or poorly done, and no sales
resulted, on a distrust of that company for future opportunities.

So, its likely that a public comparison list of features and functions would
have the same general vaporware tendency.

There may be some ways around the above problems, but those would take time
better spent on my own trading. Speaking of which, got to get ready for the
coming week.

VK, I did not try your software because when I looked at your
specifications
18-20 months ago, your software fell into my "not worth evaluating"
bucket.
I have not looked at your software's specifications in over 18 months.
Am
too busy with other things to take the time now.

No problem at all. If you noticed, I was not talking about WLD2, just in
general.

You'll note that I did not mention about 70 other software packages
either.

[VK>>]
Wow, we were not even in the other 70. :(

My posting rather obviously is only a summary reply to the questions of
others. The packages I did mention are the best real time charting,
studies, order execution and/or scanning packages; and/or had some
unique
functions, such as Ensign, that might appeal to some forum members. Best
=
in function points. Best = also generally in trader market share. E.g.,
RealTick has about 20,000 real time trading customers.

Vince, I understand you put a lot of work in your research. We are
frequently asked about the pros and cons of our software. My honest
opinion is if there would be an objective possibility to compare various
software we would be selling even more then we do now.

I would really appreciate if somebody would make up a page where various
software vendors could cross in their functions. Preferable I would like
to see on the web where various vendors could update their functions as
they add them. Or even add functions that might be unique for their
software. This page could be then the base for anyone who would like to
buy a software.

What do you think?

Again, I did not mean to be personal or trying to say your comments were
right or wrong. I also apologize if that was your impression.

It is always very difficult to have an opinion and to voice it out but
also trying not to hurt other peoples feeling. I lived long enough in
Asia and have adopted their respect to other people feelings (at least
where I lived).

Is that ok with you?

Volker Knapp
