The Final word from CME on their free data

Dear CME Customer,

We understand your concern regarding the
reduction of historical Time & Sales data on the
cme.com FTP site and apologize for any
inconvenience this may have caused you. The CME
policy has always been to provide historical
data upon request for a fee, yet provided
limited amounts available for free on cme.com as
a convenience. To accommodate our new E-history
application, which allows users to request and
receive historical data from CME in a much more
convenient and flexible manner, it was necessary
to reduce the amount of files we maintained on
our FTP server (free site). We posted a message
on those pages prior to launching E-history to
notify our customers of the pending change. CME
still feels that 7 days of historical Time &
Sales data available for free download will
provide our customers ample opportunities to
continue to access these files on a daily basis
to fulfill any data needs. If a day or two is
missed, the data will still be there for another
5 days or so. If the file you wish to access is
no longer available on the FTP site, you will
need to use the E-history application to request
the desired files.

We apologize if you feel that this is too
stringent, but in comparison to other futures
exchanges, you will notice that CME still
provides at least a competitive amount of “free”
historical data – in many cases more. We will
ensure that we continue to update our Web site
with any further policy changes.

Sincerely,

CME Information Products Management
Regards
Mike
