Try also looking at pegasus mail which you can find at www.pmail.com.  This
is the third most popular (completely free) client after outlook express and
eudora.  Its very flexible (more so than Eudora).

Re that popup.  The program does exist.  Look in
http://search.tucows.com/search for Postal Inspector , an antispam filter
