One of my favorite analogies about performance comes from baseball.
In baseball, if you bat .200 (4 out of 20), you're in the minor leagues
(unless you're a good pitcher). If you bat .250 (5 out of 20) and you have
decent defensive skills, you're in the majors. That's a difference of only 1
hit in 20 at-bats.
If you hit .250 in the majors, you're not going to make much above the
league minimums. If you hit .300 consistently (6 out of 20), you get a
multi-million dollar contract plus endorsement deals. Once again, the
difference is only 1 in 20 at-bats.
Small differences in performance, huge differences in payoff. Show up for
batting practice.
