Just to add to this, goto the Google Site, http://www.google.com and type in
your email address. Purebytes does hide your domain, but that won't protect
you if someone wants to sue you. Our emails are permanently kept in a lot
of places.
Sending emails is like placing ads in newspapers
containing your opinions, real name, address, and phone number.
Fortunately, no one cares what we say most of the time. You can attempt to
make yourself anonymous, but many remailers, proxy servers, encryption
services, and encrypted emails actually attract attention from government
agencies, especially after Sept. 11th. While governments and nosy IP
professionals may not care about your gripe with an individual or company,
many of these services are just as vulnerable to subpoenas, at least here in
the US. So, if someone wants to sue you, they can find out who you are.
Even if everything you say can be proved factually and the plaintiff has no
case, he can still sue you and force you to defend yourself out of pocket.
While companies usually don't bother with irate individuals and customers,
individual proprietors often spend their time and resources suing people to
protect their honor, egos, and businesses. Therefore, if you verbally
attack someone, even if it's morally and factually sound, prepare to defend
yourself in a court of law.
