OFF TOPIC: free e-mail recommendations

Hello omega-list,

  I want to set up a free email account to protect privacy, avoid
  address bots etc.  I want an account I can access thru The Bat (not
  having to go to a website), low/no level of advertising.

  Any experiences/recommendations welcome.  Thanks.
