I have had good luck for many years buying used UPSs on ebay. Not the
little 500VA crappers, but nice big units that we use for our servers.

Most recently, I bought a 1100VA BEST Ferrups unit for $100 (plus a chunk of
shipping...its weighs a friggin ton). The UPS has 2 big batteries, and its
a full online UPS. We have used these for many years and they are rock
solid. I tested this one and it held up a server plus 15" monitor for an
hour and 45 minutes. The downside is that its heavy and noisy, with a fan
that runs 24/7 since its an online UPS. You wouldn't want one of these in
your office, but its great in a rack.

Long story short, check out ebay. You can find some great UPSs for much
less than retail. And since you are saving a bunch of cash, dont even waste
your time on anything under 900VA.
