A belated thank you to everyone who helped me figure out my
display driver questions. Now I've got another really dumb
question... :)
I can't seem to get Win95 to make a beep. All I hear when
TradeStation trips an alert is a clicking sound. It's a nice
click, but I want a real beep.
I don't have a sound card installed, but surely I can get a beep out
of the speaker without one? When I go into Control-Panel->Sounds->
Windows->Default Beep I see an entry named "Ding" but when I click on
it so it's highlighted, then click the "Play the selected sound"
button, I hear nothing. When I bring up the Details box there's some
info there for Copyright, Media length (0.916 sec), Audio format
(PCM.22.050 Hz, 16bit Stereo), but nothing under the Other
information section. I get the feeling I'm looking in the wrong
place. None of the other selections in that Control-Panel->Sounds->
Windows list make any noise with the play-sound button.
I haven't tried installing software under the Win95 Multimedia
section, thinking this was for fancy sound-card stuff. Do
I really need to start poking around in multimedia to get a
simple beep?
I know the computer is capable of beeping because Linux does
it quite nicely. Surely there's a way to get Win95 to beep too?
TIA,
Jim
