What we have here is a failure to communicate.
Your friend, who was *not* a successful trader before his software
disappointment, complains that 100 hours with a free piece of software *did
not* make him a successful trader.  Well, *no software can*.  I have spent
over 12,000 hours (lost count long time ago) some of this on ideas that
turned out to be a dead-end.  His "abject dispair" after spending 60-100
hours is also totally out of place for a person who is realistically setting
out to be a trader.

BTW, Oddball is an illustration that simple things "can" work and all
complexity "may" bring you is a smoother equity curve.
