I didn't know about this either when I first set up my Win2000 on a network.
Right click on My Computer>Properties>Network Identification>Properties>
Be sure you have a computer name then select Domain and create a domain name
of the format "name.local". That should do it. I put my computer in to a
shop for repair and the technician put in his own name there and low and
behold, it started working!!!I have a giant Win2000 Administation book that
I will hopefully never have to read.
