It works very well; I've been using it for couple of years with no problems.
According to the documentation for Ghost 2001, you can make a bootable CD.
I haven't tried this.
A bootable CD is unnecessary for restoring the operating system. You can
boot from the "restore" floppy created by Ghost and then replace the
contents of the hard disk with the hard disk image from the Ghost backup
set.
