A cab file is a compressed file contain the files that the Windows installer
decompresses and then installs on your system.

A lot of install .exe programs contain a file that the programer called
data3.cab", it sounds like you have a faulty install disk from Nirvana. You
cannot point at any data3.cab and have it contain the files that OmniTrader
uses.

Some .exe programs can be unzipped using WinAce. WinAce can also extract
files contained in .cab files.

If you dump your temp files, and then start the install and end task on it
immediately after it decompress it self you may find the decompressed
install files in your temp folder. Also if you look at the files on the
install disk you may see the files and find data3.cab, it depends on if the
exe is a single file like programs from Macromieda or if it is a multifile
install like TS. They may have put data3.cab in the wrong folder on the
install disk.

Emptying your temp files may solve the problem as well.

I have had major software that was assembled incorrectly on the Cd and have
been able to rip the cd and reassemble it on my hard drive so that I could
get it to install.

The guy from nirvana did not know what he was talking about.

Subject: Off Topic- OmniTrader/Win98 installation probs
Nirvana tech support has been as much use as Bill Clinton in an anti-smoking

campaign!
There's a lot of clever folks here so I was wondering if anyone had any
thoughts on the following problem.
Running Windows 98 SE (v 4.10.222.A). I have had no probs installing
OmniTrader 2000 and then 2001 but the 2002 update produces the following
error:
"Please insert the disk 0 that contains the file data3.cab"
There is no data3.cab file on the installation CD.
Nirvana support says: "I checked on this issue with my manager and this
turns out to be a Windows system issue. This particular file is not
associated with OT, so there is not much we will be able to assist you
with."
and then:
"Windows Issue meas that this is in regards to a WINDOWS 98 issue. Not an
OmniTrader issue. OT2002 is compatible with Win98."
Hmm... Great support. They blame Win98. However, a scan through the original

Win98 and the update CD does not reveal a data3.cab file...
Anyone any ideas/suggestions...?
Cheers,
Ian
