Sony products very often have considerably shorter warranty periods than
other brands. This should speak about their own confidence in the
reliability of what they produce.

I used to think this too until I started using them over the years. I've
owned 4 in the last 3 years all of which have gotten fuzzy and pretty much
unusable after a couple years. Now I take a look at their LCD's and compare
them to a lower end say KDS RAD-7 and I like the RAD-7's better and for much
less. The SONY design is very nice but that's where the advantage stops in
my mind. I've had better luck with Viewsonics for CRT monitors and so far
absolutely love my 5 RAD-7 LCDs.
