Gary Fritz noted recently that for TS4, 3rd party data
min-move settings etc needed to be changed within the
downloader rather than the globalserver.
For anyone using TS2K, the following info may help.
To change the min-move settings for using and testing
3rd party data you need to do the following in
Globalserver :
1. select Tools
2. and then Edit Exchange List
3. select the exchanges you use and edit their
settings as necessary.
(The above assumes that all symbols are set to use
default exchange settings. This is the default setup
but can be changed in the GS by Tools, Edit Symbol
Dictionary - then need to select data source for
non-GS before or after you select a symbol. I would
not try and edit individual symbols this way, leave
all individual symbol setttings on the default "Use
Exchange Settings As Default" and just adjust the
Exchange settings as noted above)
Changing settings for Globalserver stored data needs
to be done by highlighting the symbols in the GS and
editing (right click or use menu at top). If you use
Historybank, the correct decimalization changes should
have been made automatically for GS data, but will not
have been made for 3rd party data.
The above seems to work for me using Metastock
formatted data. Not tested with ASCII but I assume it
works for all non globalserver data. Need to remember
if you are backtesting on stock data where there has
been many stock splits (eg DELL), current min-move
settings may not give useful info for trades several
years ago based on post split data prices.
Documentation (ie Help screens) for using 3rd party
data and the GS does not cover this stuff well.
Hope this helps for anyone getting odd results testing
with 3rd party data, and is not simply confusing.
