The market is already reacting to the president's speech in a positive way,
but the nature of our military responses and offensive activities will be
such that we may not hear the results of even outstandingly successful
battles until much later. Our operations will be done by special forces and
air power (when able), especially at night to take advantage of our prime
technological advantage, but these activities will not be published daily on
cnn or our newspapers or web sites. This will be a primarily silent war
upon the terrorists, their supporters, and their assets, which will have
minimal effect on the market. The traditional market forces will continue
to press down upon the prices until such time as it is felt that valuations
are in line with expected earnings. A more likely scenario is that we will
sell off another day after some bullishness during the night, but the
extreme volitility numbers we have now (49.04) have not been seen in 5 yrs
and would indicate a temporary bottom is nearly here.
