A funny thing happened after being "pushed" another upgrade of tspro. A
feature that you just gotta love...You get a message indicating that
your current release will cease functioning after a deadline, so you
better "upgrade".
I had systems and indicators using the pager_send() function to send
emails. Now after over 2 years of working with ts2k and over 6 months
with tspro, guess what? It doesn't work anymore and you can only use the
alert() function but not from a strategy. The alert() function also does
not work correctly. It's message buffer truncates your message after
about 100 chars, even though messaging is configured to use 32K+ buffer.
But that's another bug.
I guess that omega is "locking in" their clients to open that 50K
trading account. As long as you can't send any meaningful information
out, you've got to go through them to trade or baby sit your tspro
computer all day.
Tech support is truely pathetic. At least when ts2k first came out,
omega had decent responses. I had sent the same email to two omega
addresses. Both were answered by the same person (over 2 days later).
One email said that pager_send() worked fine and here's an example. The
other said that it didn't work and that I should use the Alert()
function instead. Well, that's how the 100 chars problem was
encountered. Another email volley later and a few more days... Then, the
same person said: "At the present time, this type of notification can
only be performed using the Alert Function. Our Quality Assurance
department is aware of the condition currently being encountered with
the Pager_Send function and will be addressed in one of the future
releases."
One of the future releases?! Gee, well which one is that going to be?
What if I *were* automating my trades through their software? Would
there still be funds in the account after I figured out that it wasn't
simply a bad string of trades? Is omega going to credit the account for
losses due to bugs in their software?
And they want people to open 50K minimum trading accounts? Why? They
need to stabilize their software to give their client's confidence not
add more uncertainty to market analysis. Someone should wake them up and
tell them that the NASDAQ day trading craze is over. There simply isn't
going to be a long line of high tech/high salaried newbies siphoning off
their assets to get rich in the stock market. It's even been about 2
years since anyone's gone postal in a brokerage...
The one thing that is consistent with omega, you can always count on
reusing *older* versions of their software. Time to break out ts2k
again. TS2K SP6? Well, that should break alot, this way you'll need to
go to tspro...
