You received a couple of direct answers to your question,
but here's another thought:
For at least the past 10 years for DOS computers, although I
think I've also used it for Windows, I use a parallel switch
box, which has 1 input from the computer, but 4 - 6 outputs
for whatever. It does require manually switching, but for
many tasks that is simple. I used it for printers, Laplink
(or similar cable), external back-up, etc.
(I always ordered my DOS computes with extra parallel
ports, so I would have my regular printer connected, but
have the switch box on LPT2.)
