Surprising findings when I compare TSPro data on a dialup versus DirectPC
satellite.
I recently had DirectPc satellite installed (also known as Pegasus
Express), since I do not have DSL or Cable modem availability.
While, I have had problems with the satellite due to their bandwith
limitations, it seems they are getting their act together.
Because I believed that I might have to discard satellite and only use 56k
dial-up, I wanted to compare TS Pro's data on the dial-up versus the
satellite.
I have my laptop sitting right next to my desktop, with the same quote
screen, level II screen and chart open (varied between 1 minute and 25
tick). The chart had 2 moving averages, a volume indicator and a
stochastics indicator.
The data timeliness is exactly the same as far as my eye can tell.
To verify that the satellite is receiving data as fast as advertised
(minimum of 400 k ) and faster than the dial-up, I also logged onto
www.toast.net and ran a test of
downloading a graphic. The speed on the satellite was 574K, whereas the
speed on the dialup was 32 K.
I also ran a test on www.speedtest.inch.com and the satellite results were
1181 down / 67 up, while the dial-up was 38 down / 24 up.
All these tests were run while I was logged onto TSPro.
One caution is in order. When the dial-up was running the tests, there
was a huge lag between the data received on TSPro dialup versus satellite.
But
when the test was concluded, so that TSPro was the only program receiving
data from the dialup on my laptop, the difference between the laptop and
desktop as far as TSPro data was concerned was nil.
I would be interested in running a real-time test with someone else trying
to compare TSPro Data via dial-up with
A) TSPro data with cable modem or DSL and/or
B) some other data source, such as DTN.
We can both be in front of our respective screens and be speaking on the
telephone, to compare.
I live in South Florida and will give my home phone number to anyone who
contacts me privately via email.
We would, of course, post the results on the Omega List.
By the way, my desktop has a 933 pentium III with 768 K of ram (I believe
it's
called DD ram.) My laptop has a 700 pentium III with 256 K ram. With
regard to the TSPro data, I have the following available in real-time:
stocks, indexes, Level II, time and sales,
and but only the e-mini.
