I have had the same problem.
I am running a 1ghz AMD abit kt7a with 256 megs of Corsair pc133 ram and an
ATI Radeon VE Video card. I swapped out the RAM and video card and
uninstalled norton antivirus, got rid of the sound card and nic card and
STILL the error persists with several applications. I can crash my system
whenever I want in several different ways, and I would really love to find
an answer to this problem.
Here is a thread I found where people are discussing the same problem.
There is some to be learned from it, hope it helps you...

Again if you end up resolving the issue, I would love to hear from you as I
am willing to try anything to fix it.

Subject: Off-Topic: Application error
Could someone send me in the right direction in resolving this memory
error?
I've tried and receieved two responses from two newsgroups:
Possibly a bad stick of RAM or from Microsofts own website to download SP2 -
both have not resolved the problem.
This message appears after trying to run Word on Windows 2000 OS.
The error message:
The instruction at "0x30767085" referenced memory at"0x2ffa9930". The
memory could not be read.
