Reading data from a file

Is it possible to read from Easylanguage any data stored in a external
data file?
Specifically i need to read from a text file, a certain date --stored as
a string in a mm/dd/yy format--, and with some Easylanguage functions
identify the bar associated with that date, and then paint it.
Sounds simple perhaps......
Any help is welcome
