This brings to mind an interview with Bill Lipshutz that was printed in Mind
of a Trader by Aplesh Patel. Lipshutz makes the point that the individual
trader, if he is good at his craft, should outperform the fund trader and
the company trader. The fund trader, because, regardless of investor
intent, his first goal is always protection of capital. 'Don't believe it?
Lose 20% in a quarter and see how fast the rats depart. The company trader,
because he has to trade. His boss EXPECTS him to trade all of the time.
Company traders long for the opportunity to sit on their hands and wait for
good trades. Only the individual trader has that luxury.
