Although not quite as bad as your figure (90%), I have had similar
experiences. I have noticed over time that the rate at which the bad-tick
count increases itself increases and have twice replaced my BMI cable
receiver for that reason. Within this month I replaced it. The bad-tick
count had increased from about 15 a day or so to several hundred per day.
Then it jumped up to around 17,000 per day. I tried both C-SPAN and AMC and
got the same results. I then replaced the receiver and bad ticks
subsequently remained zero for about a week. Then I began to get one or two
per day. Right now, after about three weeks the count is 94.
I suspect that some component or setting in the box gradually deteriorates
over time. I recommend keeping the packet counts on the box display and
checking it each day.
