No goto Win 2000....read this

Q You mention that TS performance is better with Windows 2000. What sort of
problems might one encounter if Windows 98 were used?
A. Windows 98 is not a preemptive multitasking system, which in simple
English means it only can do one thing at a time, even though it often
appears to multitask concurrently. Where data is being received by one
program, saved in a database by another, charted by another, and several
user programs also are running, Windows 98 has to service each of those
programs one at a time in round-robin fashion. The result is time delays and
sluggish response to user control actions compared to operation under
Windows 2000.
That problem is not unique to TradeLab. The same thing happens other
multiprogram products processing real-time data.
Beyond the preemptive multitasking issue, Windows 2000 has many other
advantages. It is fundamentally faster, even in single-task operations,
because it is a true 32-bit operating system. Microsoft refers to Windows 98
as a 32-bit program, but it actually is 16-bit MS-DOS with pretty windows
and some 32-bit extensions.
Windows 2000 is much more reliable. It rarely is necessary to reboot Windows
2000 after an application program crashes. There are things that can make
that necessary, but they tend to be rare.
Windows 2000 has much better security against a wide range of Internet
hacking pranks. It is less vulnerable to viruses. It has much more
sophisticated networking capabilities. It has many other things compared to
Windows 98. It is the operating system everyone with a critical application
should use.
Windows 98 can be upgraded to Windows 2000. However, the outcome will be
significantly better if a Windows 98 disk is wiped clean before Windows 2000
is installed. If that isn't done, the resulting Windows 2000 system will
have unnecessary files and registry entries that not only waste disk space,
but that sometimes cause problems when upgrading programs.
