Is it the retrieval of the data from within cells which is
inefficient(processing)? Execution engine?
How about using a SQL interface to read in the data?
Are there any known examples of Excel being used where we could actually see
what is causing the delays?
Could you send me one of your attempts so that I could look into it's
performance. I've been a professional systems developer for about 12 years,
and it would be interesting and potentially rewarding. I'd like to
understand what causes the performance bottleneck.
As for the "maintaining the monster", for me personally the higher level
the language, and the better data abstractions, the more likely that we will
end up with a "maintainable" product.
