I am certainly a long way from being a whiz kid myself.  It doesn't look to
me like you will have any other choice than to do what you suggest.  It may
help to contact the manufacturer and ask them.  One of the problems that
occur with warranties from the manufacturer is that they don't want you to
change anything as long as the warranty, i.e., my son had a prebuilt machine
with Windows 95 on it.  When my son installed an upgrade to Windows 98 he
had some problems and called the help desk.  The help desk basically told
him that the modification was not what they sold him and they couldn't help
him.  That is when we started building our own computers.
