Re: Donchian channels Indicator formula

Hi there,

This is a good question. I am looking for this stuff myself. Let me
explain what I want. I would like to program a system that looks for
break outs above previous bars. I want to optimize my Entry Long, Exit
Long, Entry Short and Exit Short.
Ricard Donchian and later Richard Dennis and his Turtles traded 20 day
breakouts. They bought stocks when a previous 20 day high was broken to
the upside.
A good idea but this can be optimized. What happens when I go long when
the high of the previous 5 bars is broken? Or six bars? or 7 bars? For a
long position. What to do with this long position? What are the results
when I Exit Long after the lowest low of the previous 3 bars is broken?
or 4 bars or 5 bars?
This can be optimized.
I saw a system once that came up with a four digit string for the 5
minute bar Eurostoxx 50 index. It said 2552 which meant; enter a long
position after the high is broken of the previous 2 bars. Exit this long
position after the lowest low of the 5 previous bars is broken. Enter a
short position after the lowest low is broken of the previous 5 bars and
buy back this short position after the highest high of the 2 previous
bars is broken to the upside.
The burning question I have at the moment is how to write a program that
calculates the optimal combination? And also; how do I write a program
that trades this?
Any suggestions are more than welcome. I think it is a brilliant trading
idea but my knowledge of Easy Language are very limited.
