Port conflict

I bought a new Dell computer and the modem came configured to com port 2.
BMI has to have that com port. Its a plug and play 56k and does not have
movable dip switches. I manage to move it to com port 1 and got BMI running
on com port 2. BMI is having trouble holding the connection and goes on an
off line. I have an old computer that I'm running BMI on now and it works
great.
So the problem is not the cable or signal strength the problem is the port.
Anybody have any ideas other than getting a different modem.

Thanks,

Robert
