The problem with Java is that it does not 'really'
just run on any computer.
In plain english, every browser thats 'java-enabled'
basically has a 'translator' built in or added to it.
The problem is that whoever is writting your
browser/opperating system has to write this
'java-translator' and and has to adhere to Sun's specs
on the language. And if any of the computer Gods
decides to rebell against Sun, then everyone else
suffers. Like what Microsoft went through last year
with their Java battle in court.
If Microsoft would have won, we all would have been
forced to use two browsers and have to figure out what
browser works with what sites.
Who is to say someone else wont disagree with Sun
tomorrow? why should Sun control the 'internet' based
applications vs. Microsoft? will they do any different
or better? I don't think so, or at the very least I
don't want to find out! I agree that Java -or anything
that works like java- is not the solution...
