This is a slang term that can mean several different things, but
mostly results in incoming incompatible data being changed in some way
to make it compatible, or the removing of excess data from a
datastream. (at least last time I checked, this ain't in my
programmers handbook)

yes, or you can write your own programs.
Sounds like you need not worry about this, if you really needed to,
you'd have known lots more about your problem.
