I think fundamentals can be useful for market selection and long term
direction. No help in timing. The fundamentals are always bullish at the
tops and bearish at the bottoms. The worst disaster in my career was a
fundamental trade in 1975 where I bought into a falling market. The
fundamentals were eventually correct but I lost most of my money and my
clients money before it happened. (We obviously didn't know much about
prudent money management in those days.)
If you want more info., I wrote a chapter about using fundamentals in Dr.
Tharp's recent book. Also Jack Schwager has a great book about fundamental
trading in futures.
