Having been a specialist on several exchanges and a market-maker and local on
others, I can tell you that rumors of stock manipulation are largely
exaggerated. Of course, all news in the corporate world passes through many
hands before an official announcement, and it is very difficult to keep a secret
when many are involved. There is always some slippage and some will try to take
advantage of the opportunity. However I doubt an organized effort, when there
are so many market participants.
