off topic -- Question for NT wizards

A few weeks ago I converted my TS4 computer from 98 to NT4 SP5.  (PII 400,
192M)  The main HDrive is 8 gig ultra dma, formatted as two 4 gig NTFS
partitions each 30% full.  The issue I am trying to sort out is a lag in the
OS, as though it is waiting to finish writing to the HD before it can move
on to the next task.  For instance, I am running TS4 server and Charting, I
minimize TS to switch to Outlook Express (the only other app open), the
system will not respond at all for a few seconds while the HD is writing.
IT gets done and everything is normal again.  TS4 b27.  Task Manager shows
peak mem usage at 75-80 M typically, paging files are set per NT
recommendations.  I never experienced anything like this with 98
w/sufficient mem -- is this normal?  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
