I wondered about that however if I look at the stats for my data collection
today:
- ES H0 total ticks - 20951
Compare that to tick data I capture for a few other stocks
- WCOM - 40721
- QCOM - 85000 plus
etc. I capture 60 odd stocks, indicies and futures. Only when I plot the
emini or NQ do I see this "pulsing hourglass" behaviour. I bet a LU chart
today would have performed well despite the huge volume - I've never seen an
issue with stocks in my experience.
Nor does capturing bid/ask data, or not, have anything to do with it. In
fact Global server appears to chug along quite nicely regardless of how many
symbols I am capturing. At one point I was capturing 500 intraday... worked
just fine.
I've received a couple of replies - it seems that some experience this issue
and some do not.
I note that if I turn off the display of %Change in View/Chart Options that
the problem is slightly less pronounced. Removing all indicators and systems
aids somewhat as well. However in the end the problem remains. I can't
imagine having ES and NQ up in two or three different time frames with this
pulsing slowdown issue - it would be unusable.
I've tried creating new charts from scratch in new workspaces. No joy.
I'm going to do a clean install from SP2 over the weekend and see how that
goes.

Ever consider the possibility that the rate of ticks may be orders of
magnitude greater ?
Ever wonder why the data vendors can't "throttle" the feed and send 1 minute
bars instead ?
So do I. That would eliminate your problem entirely.
