I use Sygate also and I was told by the folks at BlackIce that BlackIce
Defender will only protect the machines it is installed on and installing it
on the Sygate machine will not protect you whole network because Sygate uses
Network Address Translation. NAT makes Sygate super-simple to set up and
use, but apparently makes it difficult for software firewalls to protect
your whole network from the internet connected machine.

Anybody know a good firewall that will work with Sygate (program that
allows computers to share a phone/cable modem) on NT?
I recently installed Sygate and like it a lot but its built-in firewall
is fairly primitive. My port 39 (file and printer sharing) is exposed
although not terribly vulnerable because I unbound it from TCP/IP.
Still, it's a "hacker magnet." They sell a separate firewall program but
there is some question whether it will provide any more protection than
I already have on an NT box. I emailed tech support and asked them.
After more than a month I received a form letter as a reply so they
aren't going to be any help.
