I listened to the online News Conference at Omega's web site. Omega said
they are committed to 2000i and Service Pack 4 will be released later this
quarter. It did seem as if even the Cruz's have found out there are some
problems in the 2000i product line. The firm release data was also big
improvement over the "plan to release" that we usually get from Omega.
As I understood it Omega has been granted a license by S&P ComStock to
distribute both S&P ComStock U.S. and world-wide data. This will be
available to Omega customers in the U.S. and to non-U.S. customers. S&P
ComStock is one of the few data vendors to cover all the major world-wide
exchanges.
Omega also discussed their strategic shift to the internet and how they were
going to get some of those millions of "online traders" to subscribe to
Omega online services. Just who these millions of "online traders" are
and how their data and software requirements differ apparently has yet to be
determined.
Presumably Omega's online subscribers to www.TradeStation.com, when
available next year, won't mind when Omega stops transmitting data any time
there's a hurricane within 1,000 miles of Miami.
Windows on Wall-street will be re-released for those traders with "simpler"
data and news requirements. As I understand it Super Charts is to be
eliminated as well as some Windows on WallStreet versions in favor of
www.TradeStation.com.
