My apologies to the list for having to respond to the off-top post from
Ullrich Fischer.

Ullrich,

May I refer you to one historical document and one historical fact?

    1. The Constitution of the United States  (quoting directly)
             "... the Congress shall make no law abridging the right of
the people to keep and bear arms."

    2. When Adolf Hitler became Chancellor of Nazi Germany in 1933, one
of his first acts was to ban the ownership and posession of firearms by
the people of Germany. Only the Gestapo and the military were permitted
to have guns.
