For those NT4 converts like moi, its in there. While connected, click the
DUN (DialUpNetworking) Monitor icon beside the clock; Pref tab, Play sound
when connection dropped.

since it corresponds to a windows event, it may well be that there's another
form of annunciator (like a dialog box? a custom .WAV groan/curse? or
whatever) as well as automatic redial that could be implemented.  If the
dropout event were time logged, presto, a list of intervals for which ticks
are missing.  May even be existing sharewares out there already available.
